Hear the History: Music at Melville

  • Melville Gallery 213 Water Street New York, NY, 10038 United States (map)

The Knickerbocker Chamber Orchestra returned to its roots, presenting a free concert of classical music in the South Street Seaport Museum’s exposed brick and wood-beamed Melville Gallery, located at 213 Water Street, next door to historic Bowne Printers.

The audience was swept away by the soaring sounds of the KCO strings, enveloped by the surround-sound of an all-acoustic musical experience in this rough-hewn, intimate venue.

Cellist Mark Shuman featured in KCO Music Director Gary S. Fagin’s Goldberg Suite, an arrangement for cello solo and strings of five movements from J.S. Bach’s sublime Goldberg Variations. Also on the program, a rollicking Mozart Divertimento, Ralph Vaughan-Williams’ haunting Fantasia on a Theme of Thomas Tallis, and some delectable musical surprises.

It was a delightful evening of extraordinary music—right in your backyard! And thanks to the generous donations of the KCO’s supporters in Lower Manhattan—it was FREE!

As always, stay tuned and find out more about the program via the KCO Newsletter, our website, and social media!
