Charlotte:  Life? Or Theater?

Sunday, May 31, 2026 at 5:00PM

Safra Hall, Museum of Jewish Heritage

Admission is Free with registration

“Charlotte: Life? or Theater?,” book and lyrics by Elise Thoron, music by Gary S. Fagin, is a one-act music-theater piece based on the life and paintings of Charlotte Salomon, the German-Jewish painter who created an astonishing visual record of her life in Berlin and France in the 1930s and 1940s, and who lost her life in Auschwitz in 1943. This is the story of a young woman who created something beautiful, personal, and remarkable during a time of daunting suppression.

The Museum of Jewish Heritage in Battery Park City will host this concert performance of “Charlotte: Life? or Theater?,” accompanied by projections of Salomon’s extraordinary art, May 31 in Safra Hall as the featured presentation of its 2026 Mishpachah Festival.  We hope you’ll join us - admission is free.
